Suma Mani has had the Privilege of being trained in Bharatanatyam from a tender age by her illustrious Guru Kumari Shobana. She had excelled in the field of Bharatanatyam and has many awards to her credit. She has given number of solo concerts and has also performed in her Guru’s group productions. She is a good nattuvangist and in this capacity she has toured with her Guru.

Her wide experience and creativity helps her in spreading the divine art amongst the youngsters. She wishes to express her gratitude to her Guru Shobana and is aiming to conduct her dance school on the guidelines , principles and philosophy set down by her Guru. Suma owes all these dimensions to her most resourceful Guru Shobana. She is the recipient of prestigious titles such as Lakshmi Vishwanathan award, Balasaraswathi award, Padma Bharathi, Nrithya Sironmani and Yuvakala Bharathi award for Dance, Nattuvangam and choreography to mention a few. The aesthetic sensibility and spirituality of Suma have been nourished by her in Kalarpana in Chennai.
